I worked out yesterday that 14 years ago I picked up my
first DIET book because I was so miserable about my body and the overwhelming obsession
I had with food at the time.
Susan Powters, FOOD ‘’Stop the Insanity!” I still have
it in my book case today as a matter of fact..
I remember reading it and feeling slightly liberated that
someone else in the world obsessed about food and worried about their weight
like I did. Her story involved a
considerable amount of weight loss and an eye opening view on how we were
eating all the wrong foods (14 yrs ago I might add, nothing much has changed),
however it was her story about her body image and self hatred that struck a
nerve with me most of all.
Now after 14 years and many more books like hers under my
belt as well as countless clients stories about weight loss and weight gain, I can honestly say we still don’t seem to be
any closer to figuring out the miracle cure for our Dieting merry go round.
In fact statistics say our weight problems are bigger the
Ben Hur (pardon the pun), so clearly we are still missing something.
Everyone is waiting for the new system or the new online
program, pill or potion that finally explains or announces:
“This is the reason
why your body won’t lose weight and this is what you have to do easily and
simply without having to change a thing” TaDAH..
Sadly it’s just a marketers dream come true – Since going into business I discovered there
are literally millions of Google
searches for weight loss miracles and dieting tips daily – YES I said Daily and to be honest that saddens me because that’s
proof that millions of people EVERY DAY are unhappy with what they see in the
Judging themselves by a physical body and not feeling as
though they have the answers or knowledge or ability to change what they are
eating and change their lifestyle for the long haul.
Don’t get me wrong I’m not saying it’s easy – 14 years should
tell you that it’s taken a long time for me to understand the process and I can
assure you I’m STILL learning… BUT while
we are looking to Google for the insights we are looking for the answers in all
the wrong places.
The answer to making a lifelong change with how you take
care of yourself is this… AND Only this;
You HAVE To start believing that YOU are WORTHY.
Worthy of taking care of yourself, Worth looking after, that
YOU have value and ADD value to someone or something or just simply life
itself. Because until you believe that
you are worth looking after – there will always be reasons and excuses to over-ride
If you have a brand new shiny car worth more than you can
afford I bet you take good care of it.
If you own a rusty old bomb that’s falling apart and not worth a year of
rego, I’m sure you don’t bother with what you put into it? You don’t spend
money on services right?
Well even a car needs someone to drive it for it to be worth
anything… AND here is the secret behind
this message – YOU are not your car… It’s the YOU inside that makes the decisions
not the you that reflects in the
That YOU on the inside is where you find your value – the one
that never gets to speak up – the one that never feels worthy or self love and
the one that always wants the best for you but the old tapes playing inside your
head about never being appreciated or never being able to finish what you start
or never being good enough seems to drown the real you out.
YOU are so much more than a physical body and that makes you
as worthy as anyone else on this planet.
Nobody was born into this world with Unworthy stamped on their head and yet we all seem to be busy questioning
what our worth is.
It’s time to re-record some of those old tapes playing in
your head and believe that you are worth taking care of, believe that you are a
shiny new car with new opportunities and new beliefs and a new re-conditioned
engine to go with it AND believe that YOU know how to take care of yourself instead
of waiting for Google to give you the answer.
You put good things in and you will always get good results…
